22-year-old Liam Lawson is the newest addition to the grid in 2024 as he is set to drive for Visa Cash App RB this weekend at Austin. Lawson fills in for Daniel Ricciardo who was sacked after the race in Singapore last month.
Liam Lawson drove for AlphaTauri (RB) last season after Daniel Ricciardo got injured at the Dutch GP. He was impressive for the team and has since been a burning prospect for a seat on the grid.
Lawson was thereafter welcomed in a hilarious manner by the Red Bull sister team ahead of the United States GP. The team posted a video of him receiving a sticker saying ‘I am an F1 driver‘ which he stuck proudly to his chest.
The 22-year-old is yet to receive a permanent contract and has only been designated to race for the remaining six races of the 2024 season. His performances will therefore play a big role in assuring his future on the grid.
Liam Lawson feeling no additional pressure despite uncertainty of 2025 seat
Formula 1 is of an extremely competitive and demanding nature. It requires drivers to perform day in and day out to ascertain their seat on the grid. In light of this, Liam Lawson has shared his thoughts on the pinnacle of motorsport.

I would say honestly I don think its more pressure. Last year you know knowing each weekend was potentially my last, that added more pressure. But now I think that anytime you are in Formula 1, even if youβve had a full season, a great season, it can change very quickly. People only remember the last one or two races and if theyβre not good then you are under pressure again.
Liam Lawson spoke to F1TV
Lawson claims that his duration for the previous season was more stressful as compared to his current situation. He also added that an F1 driver faces the risk of getting the axe even after a largely successful season.
The upcoming races offer the 22-year-old a short but valid span to prove his worth to the grid. While driving in an RB will be difficult for Lawson, the experience of being an F1 driver will help him in showcasing his skills from Austin onwards.
