Sergio Perez has been struggling to perform for Red Bull since May of this year. Perez at the beginning of the season was just behind teammate Max Verstappen, securing every possible podiums. However, there was a drastic fall in his performance since the Emilia Romagna GP. The recent Belgian GP was another bad run for the Mexican as he secured seventh position despite qualifying third. Red Bull technical director Pierre Wache admits the team is equally at fault as Perez for his poor performance.

Pierre Wache acknowledged that Sergio Perez‘s recent struggles with performance might be partly due to issues within the team. He mentioned that the team needs to help Checo make the most out of the car’s potential. The team has the role in ensuring that the car is set up in a way that allows him to do his best. Wache mentioned, the Mexican provides necessary feedback on the car’s performance. Taking this into consideration the team makes adjustments and try to improve the conditions of his car.

It’s difficult to say why he dropped off. I think it’s partly our fault, for sure . We have to try to help him exploit the potential of the car. He gives feedback and we try to help him.

Wache explained that sometimes Perez performance issues arise due to bad luck. He stated anything happening during the qualifying sessions, like a small problem or an unfortunate incident, affects how well he does in the actual race. Therefore, even the car is good, and the team does their best to support Checo. Unfortunate incidents and issues disturb his race and results in poor performance.

Sometimes he’s also unlucky, what happened in some qualifying can influence the overall result of the race.

Pierre Wache claims Sergio Perez doesn’t like the response of the car

Pierre Wache noted that while he is not the driver himself, he can tell that Sergio Perez isn’t entirely comfortable with the car’s balance. He mentioned that the team needs to address this issue before the summer break comes to end, as it affects Checo’s performance.

It’s challenging to pinpoint the exact problem affecting the Mexican compared to his teammate, Max Verstappen. However, Wache believed that improving the car’s overall stability could benefit both drivers, making it easier for Pérez to perform at his best.

I’m not a driver, but it seems like the response of the car is not what he likes . That’s something we need to address. It’s difficult to pinpoint the sweet spot where the problem is for him compared to Max.
Pierre Wache stated.

Certainly, Pierre Wache noted that Perez’s poor performance is not only his fault but also the teams. They couldn’t find the exact issue Checo is dealing with, however they would try to make the car faster before the break comes to an end. Fans hope that the 34-year-old comes back to the position where he was at the beginning of the season and score points for the team.
