Sebastian Vettel supports Mick Schumacher’s return to Formula 1. After Logan Sargeant’s massive crash during FP3 at Zandvoort, William is rumored to sack Sargeant and replace him with Schumacher for the remainder of the 2024 season. The team announced Carlos Sainz as Sargeant’s replacement during the summer break, with Sainz set to join in 2025.
Sebastian Vettel praised Mick Schumacher upon his driving skills. Vettel explained he has won both Formula 2 and 3, which is a significant achievement to get a seat in Formula 1. The four-time world champion pointed out that Schumacher has gained even more experience and growth since those victories. He believed that the 25-year-old has the skills and maturity needed to make a strong impression at Williams.
Mick is a good racing driver. He's won Formula 2 and Formula 3 - that's no mean feat. Now he has matured even more. I'm sure that he could impress at Williams.Sebastian Vettel told Bild
Further, Vettel expressed his hope that Mick Schumacher gets an opportunity to prove his abilities. He believed Schumacher has not had a fair chance due to his time with the Haas team, where he didn’t perform as well as expected. The German reckoned that Mick Schumacher’s skills and potential were not fully highlighted during those two years. He hoped that with Williams and better circumstances, the 25-year-old could demonstrate his true talent and change people’s opinions about him.
I hope he gets the chance and can show the world what he's capable of. Mick has been unfairly branded because of his two years at Haas.Sebastian Vettel added.
Sebastian Vettel asserts the car wasn’t competitive for Mick Schumacher to win races at Haas
Sebastian Vettel acknowledged that Mick Schumacher made some mistakes at Haas. However, he also pointed out that the car he was driving wasn’t very good. Vettel reckoned that because of this, many people have a mistaken view of the young German’s abilities. Schumacher’s performance was unfairly judged because the car he had didn’t allow him to show his true skills back then.
Of course, he made mistakes, but the car wasn't competitive. Many people have the wrong image of him.Sebastian Vettel stated.
Therefore, Vettel believes that fans have a negative impression of Mick Schumacher based on his results with a less competitive car. The four-time world champion wants to correct this misunderstanding and highlight Schumacher’s true potential, which he feels can be demonstrated at Williams.
