Sergio Perez failed to make it out of Q1 for the fourth time in the last six races after shunting into the barriers in Budapest. The team’s technical advisor, Helmut Marko, appeared furious with the Mexican’s poor qualifying.
Sergio Perez came into the Hungarian Grand Prix desperately needing a good run after a string of lackluster performances. However, the 34-year-old’s hopes were ignited in flames as he crashed into the barriers, damaging his RB20 in Q1.
Helmut Marko‘s been one of the few who has shown confidence in favor of Perez recently, however, the former appeared distraught after his driver’s early retirement. Perez put the Q1 session to a halt, bringing out the red flags after his shunt.

The 81-year-old was not one to mince words and called for an urgent need of discussion regarding Perez’s future next week. The 34-year-old starts P16 on Sunday and will look to salvage a few points at the 4.3 km Hungaroring.

Sergio Perez has apologized to the Milton-Keynes-based team after totaling his car in Q1. The Mexican has then claimed to give his best shot during the 70-lap race on Sunday.

Perez has amassed only 11 points in the last five races since signing a new contract extension with the Milton-Keynes outfit. The future of the Mexican now hangs in the balance.
The 34-year-old has said that he will try to shut down the external speculation and rumors to focus on the race ahead. Perez now has no option but to perform during the Hungarian Grand Prix as he looks to save his seat with Red Bull for the coming season.
