Sergio Perez faced a highly disappointing situation in Formula 1 after suffering from woeful performances with Red Bull. Perez had to mutually agree to part ways with the team in order to save face ahead of the 2025 season. The Mexican’s father Antonio Perez Garibay applauded Milton Keynes for their efforts over his son’s career, fresh after his ‘sabbatical’ remark.

Sergio Perez not only failed to perform well throughout the 2024 season, but he also topped the Destructors’ championship (highest cost of chassis damage). As a result, Perez’s sacking was more than evident, especially after Red Bull’s constructors championship loss. The Mexican’s father had recently claimed that his son ‘totally’ retired from the sport and would no longer look to race in it again.

Antonio Perez Garibay thanked Red Bull for putting faith in Sergio Perez over the years. The Mexican reckoned that his son’s best performances were with them. Perez Sr. highlighted that the disappointing end must not be taken as a rivalry between Perez Jr. and Milton Keynes. Subsequently, the 65-year-old pointed out that there were only 20 drivers at the pinnacle of motorsport with every other junior driver looking for a seat there.

We have to thank Red Bull a lot. Checo Perez’s best years in his racing career were at Red Bull. We must not take this as a rivalry, this is the world of motorsport. You have to understand something about this to make it clear, Formula 1 only has 20 seats, we are more than 7 billion people. Everyone is looking for a seat there

Antonio Perez believed that the best version of Perez Jr. was yet to come. The 65-year-old was certain that everyone would be happy and proud of Checo. Despite facing an unfortunate end to the Mexican’s career, Perez Sr. highlighted that the Perez family hadn’t ‘abandoned’ Formula 1.

The best version of Checo Pérez is yet to come. Everyone is going to be very happy and very proud. What Checo Pérez has done up until now is just the beginning. What’s coming will be historic, I assure you. Great things are coming for the Pérez family; the only thing I can tell you is that the Pérez family has not abandoned Formula 1.

Antonio Perez noted

Sergio Perez is yet to come out publicly and make any bold claims regarding his future. The 34-year-old is still young and has a promising career in some other form of motorsport.
