Red Bull driver Sergio Perez‘s woes continued as he crashed out of the Qatar GP during the latter stages of the race. The Mexican spun onto the gravel, the details of which remained open to investigation by pundits and fans for some time.

Sergio Perez started the race in Lusail at P9 and instantly made up a few places. He then raced at P7 for the majority of the race without facing any problems. However, he suddenly lost control of his car and has explained the reasons for it post-race.

Perez claims that his RB20 could not find the grip on fresher tires moments before he spun onto the gravel. The 34-year-old then claimed of losing power in the engine and ultimately, oversteering his way out of the race.

Everything was going well, we were aiming for a great result, we could fight for the podium. Unfortunately, we ended up losing the engine and spinning out with that overdelivery. With the tires so cold, I couldn’t control the car.

The Mexican’s chances to continue at Red Bull have taken a major hit due to his dismal run on Sunday. Heading into the final race of the season, he hopes that the Milton-Keynes-based team lets him stay on for 2025.

Christian Horner spoke to DAZN after the Qatar GP

Christian Horner hopes that Perez is able to finish the season on a positive note with Red Bull. The Mexican’s struggles have affected and cost the team major chunks of points in the title race.

Perez is currently on a contract with the Milton-Keynes-based team until the end of 2026. Nevertheless, his performances have compelled the championship-winning side to discuss his stay after the last race of 2024.
