Sergio Perez‘s performance slump had continued past multiple race weekends and took a massive hit at Red Bull’s point tally. Hence, the Belgian GP was one of the most crucial races for Perez as his future in the team would be discussed depending on his performance. The Mexican driver has locked out a front-row qualifying and will have a great start for the upcoming race.

Helmut Marko had noted that Sergio Perez‘s future at Red Bull would be ‘evaluated’ soon after the Belgian GP. Additionally, even the team’s boss Christian Horner claimed that the 34-year-old’s future was in his own hands. As a result, Perez had to put forth the best results possible during the Belgian GP qualifying.

Sergio Perez pointed out that the conditions were ‘tricky’ at the rain-borne Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Regardless, it was great to put forth a solid lap and secure a front-row for the Belgian GP. Subsequently, Checo highlighted that starting in P2 was ideal and hoped to ‘perform better’ in the main race.

Very tricky out there. It was good to finally put it together. Unfortunately we didn't have any new tyres in Q3. P2 is the best position you can wish for at Spa. Like I've always said, every weekend is a new opportunity to do better.
Sergio Perez said during the post-session interview.

Sergio Perez asserts having a ‘good feeling’ despite the ‘unknowns’ at Belgian GP

The circuit is still unknown regarding the temperatures and the weather in and around Spa-Francorchamps. Additionally, the entire Qualifying session was run on the Intermediate compounds. Hence, the main 44-lap Belgian GP would put forth uncertain conditions for Sergio Perez starting from P2.

However, despite the ‘lot of unknowns’ at the Belgian GP, Perez had a ‘good feeling’ and hoped to put forth the best possible results.

I think tomorrow degradation will be tricky, and graining - there are a lot of unknowns but I have a good feeling.
Sergio Perez added.

Red Bull has attempted to implement multiple upgrades to the RB20 in hopes of improving performance. The team is continuously losing ground to McLaren in the constructors’ championship and needs to revive their dominant form. Regardless, the 2024 season is looking highly exciting due to the fierce competition on the grid.
