Sergio Perez reportedly set to get one year extension from Red Bull despite disastrous Monaco GP weekend

Sergio Perez‘s contractual situation from the coming season is one of the hot topics around the paddock. After Perez’s disastrous incident at the Monaco GP, the Mexican’s future is under fire once again. Multiple people believe that the 34-year-old might be ousted from the Austrian constructor due to repeated failures. However, according to recent sources, Milton Keynes might not be ready to let Perez go just yet.
Sergio Perez‘s coveted seat at Red Bull has multiple other drivers ready to pounce on the opportunity. Perez’s colossal crash at the Monaco GP made the people believe that Red Bull will start to consider other options soon. However, Red Bull had previously provided a one-year contract extension for the Mexican driver. However, Perez was hesitant to accept it as he made a counterargument to increase the contract to two years.
Regardless, no concrete information had been further provided from Red Bull’s side. As per Motorsport.com, the Mexican is ready to lock in with Red Bull. The 34-year-old has decided to finalize a one-year extension with the Austrian constructor. Despite Perez’s recent degrading performance and fifth spot in the drivers’ championship, Milton Keynes is ready to provide a contract to him.

Christian Horner claims Sergio Perez needs to get back into the ‘position of confidence’ of the season beginning
Sergio Perez started the 2024 season off in great fashion by closely following Max Verstappen‘s performance in second. However, the past few weeks have been brutal for the Mexican as said by Christian Horner. Especially, the incident at the Monaco GP which will require the crew to work overtime.
The Team Principal recalled Perez’s positive performance in the first few race weekends. Hence, Horner reckoned that the team required to help the 34-year-old get back into the same position of confidence. Sergio Perez’s performance is extremely necessary to help Red Bull build a bigger gap between the rival teams.
This weekend's been pretty brutal for him, [But] Checo's first six races, he was very strong, qualifying on the front row and finishing second and third and scoring very well. We just need to get back into that position of confidence and not to see a dip.Christian Horner said, as reported by motorsport.com.
Sergio Perez will need to rediscover his form pick up the pace and start taking the lead over the opponents. The past few failed weekends have made the Mexican driver drop down to fifth in the pecking order. Hence, the 34-year-old will need to work extremely hard to ensure a runner-up finish in the drivers’ championship down the season.
