Sergio Perez parted ways with Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2024 season. Milton Keynes had grown tired of Checo’s underwhelming run. Now, without a seat for this year, Perez has finally given a timeline on his future.
The Mexican driver was replaced by Liam Lawson as Max Verstappen’s teammate. Perez’s massive 280-point deficit to Verstappen is believed to be the main cause behind his departure. The 34-year-old is currently on the sidelines with no seats available on the grid.
Sergio Perez claimed that he will make a decision on his career after a 6-month break. The 34-year-old made it clear that he will only decide on returning to Formula 1 if that makes him the happiest. Thus a switch to a different series was not out of question for the Mexican driver. Perez’s father Antonio Perez has reckoned that Checo is unlikely to race in F1 again.
In the next six months I will make a decision on what’s next for my career. I am totally happy, and I will return to Formula 1 if that is what makes me happiest.

Sergio Perez ‘never gave up’ in his career
Perez has faced setbacks in his F1 career in the past. The 34-year-old was ousted from Racing Point (now Aston Martin) to make way for Sebastian Vettel in 2021. He was left without a seat for till the season finale in Abu Dhabi when Red Bull finally made the call to sign him. Thus, Checo recalled that no matter how tough the situation got, he kept pushing.

The important thing is that I never gave up. Whenever something difficult happened in my career better things came and that was because I never gave up.
Sergio Perez explained
Sergio Perez will be enjoying his time away from the paddock with his friends and family. The Mexican driver deserves a break after a hectic time at Red Bull. Some believe that General Motors’ 2026 F1 entry might be the best chance for Perez to return to the grid.
