FIA had recently banned using abusive language on team radio following multiple drivers’ radio comments while angry. However, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem faced major backlash over this decision especially due to the way he showcased the matter. Hence, amidst multiple drivers against the decision, Sergio Perez has decided to take a similar stance to the others.

Sergio Perez had recently said his fair share of abusive words on the team radio after crashing with Carlos Sainz at the Azerbaijan GP. Hence, Perez was wholly against the decision to ban swearing and labeled Formula 1 to be a ‘funny sport’. The Mexican noted that drivers wouldn’t be able to control themselves, especially during such critical moments.

It’s a very funny sport. They put the microphone on your mouth… imagine in football, footballers after they kicked, but you have to control yourself.
Sergio Perez told racer.com.

However, Sergio Perez had an unconventional suggestion to fix these issues and remove the ban on cussing. Perez suggested that the FIA should delete the radio and provide some privacy to the team and drivers. This would also mean that the teams could freely discuss their team strategies on team radio and change a massive aspect of the sport.

I think if they want to control that they should just delete the radio — take away the radio and give us the privacy.

Sergio Perez claimed the drivers would ‘not follow’ the suggestions from FIA

FIA had attempted to ban swearing and cuss words already in the past. However, the drivers continued to use such language during intense moments on track with the team. Hence, Sergio Perez believed that this rule would witness a similar reaction. Perez claimed that in the heat of the moment, not many drivers would take the rule into account and swear freely.

I don’t think many people in the heat of the moment will follow their suggestions!
Sergio Perez noted.

Formula 1 and FIA might have to reconsider their decision of banning swearing on team radio. The governing body must come up with rules that keep the drivers and fans satisfied. Hence, the rule might witness a tweak following the massive backlash from the majority of the drivers on grid.
