Sergio Perez is currently facing an extreme performance slump midway through the 2024 season. The Mexican driver has failed to clear the Q1 session for the third time out of the previous five races. Perez hit the wall during the Hungarian GP qualifying (Q1). Hence, the woeful performances continue for the 34-year-old.

Red Bull was hopeful of Sergio Perez‘s better performance after the recent failure at the British GP. However, Perez failed to steer clear of the qualifying session and hit the wall at the Turn 8. The Mexican driver’s RB20 is in awful condition and is in no state to continue the session further. As a result, Perez will have to start the Hungarian GP from the bottom five of the grid.

Sergio Perez was the center of much hate due to his recent failing performances. Despite the woeful performances, the Mexican driver managed to amass a contract extension for two years.

However, Helmut Marko had reckoned that the 34-year-old would be ‘evaluated’ over the summer break and his future would be decided at the Red Bull team. Hence, the coming few races would be extremely crucial as Perez would be put under a microscope.

Red Bull was concerned regarding the driver’s safety after the incident. Sergio Perez’s crash was serious and could’ve left the driver with severe injuries. However, Modern F1 cars are extremely safe and capable in terms of driver safety. Hence, Perez was thankfully unhurt from the incident.

Perez immediately took to the team radio and pointed out that he was ‘ok’ despite the harsh crash. Subsequently, stewards immediately cleared the track and the session continued without any issues. Hence, the Mexican driver will have to start the Hungarian GP from the P16 position after a woeful performance in the Qualifying session.

The time is ticking for Perez’s future at the Red Bull team. He will have to showcase some extremely impressive performances to secure his seat despite the contract extension. Multiple highly capable drivers are eager to pounce on the opportunity of a Red Bull seat for the 2025 season.
