Daniel Ricciardo has made his trade with multiple teams in his F1 career. Ricciardo deemed his exit from Red Bull in 2018 and has fallen in performance since then. Multiple people berated the Aussie’s career switch after disappointing performances from him. F1 pundit Tom Coronel has further shared his thoughts on the multiple team switches from the 35-year-old.
Tom Coronel recalled Daniel Ricciardo‘s move to Renault back in 2018 after he left Red Bull. The former reckoned Ricciardo’s sole motive behind the move was money-related. The Australian driver preferred to choose money and not his racing heart to stay with Milton Keynes. The Dutchman believed this was a big blunder in the 35-year-old’s career.
A few years ago, when Daniel Ricciardo left Red Bull and joined Renault for the money, I already knew. He chose the money and not his racing heart.Tom Coronel told formule1.nl
Subsequently, Coronel joked about the move and pointed out how people believed Ricciardo to be transformed after the move. However, the Dutchman didn’t hesitate to acknowledge that the Aussie couldn’t get it done anymore in performance. Additionally, the 52-year-old noted that the eight-time Grand Prix winner failed to succeed at McLaren or AlphaTauri and could no longer improve.
It's a beautiful story, the Ricciardo 2.0 who learned from his blablabla mistakes, but he can't get it done anymore. He did not succeed at McLaren, he did not succeed at AlphaTauri and he will never succeed again. Then I have something like this: be honest with yourself.Tom Coronel added
Tom Coronel called out Daniel Ricciardo to ‘stop racing’ in Formula 1
Daniel Ricciardo is also infamous for his awesome personality on the grid. Hence, Tom Coronel felt that Ricciardo would be better off as a co-commentator or an analyst for F1. Additionally, Coronel claimed that the Australian was funny and had flair. However, the 35-year-old needed to stop racing as he was no longer part of the ‘top 20 drivers’ in the world.
He is an ideal co-commentator or analyst for motorsport. He is funny, has flair and can handle anything well. Go do that nicely, but stop with Formula 1. And he has absolutely nothing to look for with a training team. Formula 1 is the class for the top 20 drivers in the world and it is no longer part of that.Tom Coronel noted
Despite the harsh words from Coronel, Ricciardo is unlikely to budge from his decision. The 35-year-old aims to continue racing in Formula 1 and is even looking at a move to Red Bull. The 2024 season is thought to be the final chance for Ricciardo to showcase his talent and continue racing further in the sport.
