Kimi Raikkonen had a rather interesting time at the FIA Gala in 2018 when he received an award for P3 finish in the championship.

Former Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen was infamous for his cold and brutal personality on the grid. In addition to this personality, Raikkonen was also a great driver overall as he won the 2007 world title. However, fans were least expecting what happened when the ‘Iceman’ went to the 2018 FIA Prize Gala to receive the award for finishing third in the 2018 championship.

Raikkonen finished third in the driver’s standings in the 2018 F1 season as Ferrari came close to matching Mercedes in the championship. Hence, he was one of the star attendees at the FIA Gala in December. However, observers spotted the Finn taking full advantage of the open-drinks bar at the Gala before receiving the award.

When the stage called upon the former Ferrari driver to receive the trophy, his presentation appeared rather uncertain. Raikkonen’s drunken state before appearing on stage was evident from his facial expressions. However, Raikkonen did not do something absurd or incorrect as the Finnish just took the award and clicked a few pictures alongside teammate Sebastian Vettel who finished P2 in the championship.

The award presenter noticed Raikkonen’s drunk look and didn’t hesitate to bring this up. The presenter reckoned that Kimi perhaps enjoyed a lot before the show, in an attempt to draw attention towards the sloshed state of Kimi Raikkonen. However, no one made further comments about this as the Finnish quickly exited the stage and the spotlight after receiving the award.

Kimi Raikkonen was the last world champion for Ferrari

Although hard to believe, the Iceman Kimi Raikkonen is indeed the latest person to win the world title for Ferrari in 2007. Recently, the Finnish took a trip down memory lane alongside his son. Raikkonen shared pictures of himself and his son spotted at the Museo Della Ferrari in Maranello, capturing the wholesome moment.

Raikkonen Jr seems to take in the footsteps of his dad as his images were clicked with the images of Raikkonen winning the 2007 world championship. In addition to this, Robin was the podium-sitter in the Rotax Micro (Karting) category and also put the other drivers, even older than him at shame by outperforming them in terms of performance.

Kimi Raikkonen has since taken an exit from the sport after a mediocre season in Alfa Romeo in 2021. The driver partook in other forms of motorsports but has shown no interest whatsoever in returning to Formula 1.
