Zak Brown’s McLaren had been performing exceptionally well since the Chinese GP as they have been on the podium in every race since then. The team was in sixth place by last year’s Austrian GP with only 17 points to their name in the Constructors Championship. McLaren CEO Brown revealed real reason behind the squad’s resurgence in the past year.

Zack Brown stated that many of their employees and team members, drivers contributed to their success. However, the key person leading the transformation at McLaren was team principal Andrea Stella. Brown acknowledged that Stella’s leadership has been crucial in making significant changes within the team. The 52-year-old also praised Stella’s skills, stating that he is the best racer he has ever worked with. Brown highlighted his exceptional abilities and impact on the team’s performance on his arrival.

He believed that Stella’s leadership is the most important change that has helped the team improve significantly since the beginning of the 2023 season. He also praised team members Pete Prodromou, Rob Marshall, and Neil Houldey, highlighting their success achieved under the Italian’s leadership.

Zack Brown explained how everyone is surprised as the season moves ahead. He added, when the teams went to Bahrain, they thought the championship was already decided in favor of Red Bull. However, he believed the competition is heating up and expects an exciting battle ahead as Mercedes has been showing strong performance lately. The 52-year-old highlighted multiple teams are now in the mix for wins, making the second half of the season more unpredictable and thrilling for fans and teams.

I think we all are [surprised]. We all went to Bahrain and went, 'Right, that's that championship. But I think it's going to be an epic. Mercedes seems to be very on the pace now.

Brown noted that Ferrari is consistently competitive, following their recent victory in Monaco. The American states that it is exciting because there are four different teams that all have the potential to win races in the second half of the season. He found this situation fantastic, highlighting the intense competition among the teams. However, Brown regretted that the season didn’t start now, as the current competition level makes it a thrilling time for racing.
