FA Cup Semifinal 2020: Chelsea vs Manchester City Match Report

Chelsea defeated Manchester City in the semifinals of the FA CUP 2020/21 on Saturday night 1-0. Hakim Ziyech secured the winner for Chelsea after an assist from Timo Werner. The blues had goals disallowed in both halves from Ziyech and Pulisic respectively.
First Half
Chelsea definitely looked the brighter between the two sides and should’ve scored once given the chances they had. Hakim Ziyech had the ball in the back of the net but the goal was disallowed rightly by the video assistant referee.
Controversy reigned supreme with Chelsea fans arguing that Fernandinho should be sent off after stepping on Mason Mount’s face. The Brazilian is lucky to escape from that
Ben Chilwell had a great chance to put the Blues ahead with Reece James cross. Timo Werner ducked under the ball and so did Joao Cancelo. Ben Chilwell connected first time but his shot was just wide.
This time the combination gets reversed and Ben Chilwell finds Reece James just at the edge of the area. Reece James finds some space and takes a hit from far out which isn’t far away from Steffens goal.
Manchester City had an opportunity at the end of the half with Raheem Sterling finding Fernandinho ik space between Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva. However his header is just wide and Kepa Arrizabalaga is not required.
Second Half
Manchester City are hit with a great loss as their talisman Kevin De Bruyne limps off the field and is replaced by Phil Foden. City fans will be praying that it isn’t serious given that they face Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League semi finals.
Hakim Ziyech finally got the breakthrough after his disallowed goal in the first half. The Moroccan international. Timo Werner is freed down the left who draws the goalkeeper out only to square it for Ziyech who taps it into the free goal.

Hakim Ziyech had yet another chance to double his and Chelsea’s tally as he’s gifted with a one on one chance with Steffen. However his shot with the right foot is weak.
Ruben Dias should’ve put Manchester City on level terms as he puts his shot just over the post. Manchester City make quick changes with Ilkay Gundogan coming in for Ferran Torres. Chelsea bring on Christian Pulisic for Mason Mount.
Pep Guardiola’s men increased the pressure on Chelsea in the final quarter of the game with Rodri trying one from far away which is collected safely by Kepa Arrizabalaga. Raheem Sterling then blasts his shot over after Gabriel Jesus miscued Cancelo’s cross.
Chelsea have yet another goal disallowed this time from Christian Pulisic after he beat two defenders. Kepa Arrizabalaga produces a fine save after Rodri got on the end of Phil Foden’s corner.
