The White House has become a pit-stop for prominent NFL players to drop by in the off-season. Ironically, everyone but the Philadelphia Eagles has opted to visit President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. The latest player to visit the President is Kirk Cousins.

The quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons faces an uncertain future in the NFL. However, he is not losing sleep over what lies ahead for him. Kirk Cousins visited the White House and shared a few pleasantries with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. He is the second NFL player to visit POTUS after Harrison Butker dropped in last week.

The two took a photo which has since gone viral on social media. The image of the two shaking hands was posted by Margo Martin, the special assistant and communications advisor to the President with the caption ‘#18#47’ with a handshake emoji in between the numbers.

The number 18 represents Kirk Cousins’ jersey number, whereas the latter is a significant number for Trump, as he is the 47th President of the United States. Both Cousins and Trump wore dark blue suits. While the purpose of his visit to Washington remains unclear, it is not the first time they have conversed with one another.

Kirk Cousins received an unexpected phone call from President Trump in October 2019. He had reached out to him after the Minnesota Vikings had beaten the New York Giants 28-10 and congratulated him for the victory. This was when the President was campaigning for the 2020 elections.

Since then a lot has changed for them both. Trump went on to lose the elections but made a resurgence with his win last year. Cousins signed with the Atlanta Falcons for four years and $180 million but after just one disappointing season with the team, the franchise opted to bench him and turn to Michael Penix instead.

Cousins’ return after an Achilles injury was disappointing. He had his moments where he rose to the occasion in Atlanta but it became easier to remember his turnovers than touchdowns. As the NFL free agency has begun to pick up steam with teams actively engaging in trades, Cousins remains hopeful of securing another opportunity to prove he is worthy of being a starter in the NFL.

However, the reality is that his 3,508 yard, 18 touchdown, and 16 interception season has teams doubting his abilities. The Seattle Seahawks can be a potential destination for him considering they traded Geno Smith to the Raiders earlier today.

However, Cousins will enter a difficult situation as both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are no longer part of the franchise with the former seeking to be traded and the latter being released. The Falcons are exploring all options to ensure they get the best value for Cousins.
