In Short
  • UFC White House event fight card announced, featuring Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje as main event.
  • Fans express mixed reactions, with many feeling underwhelmed by the lineup and lack of star power.
  • Dana White previously hyped the event as potentially record-breaking, but key fighters like Jon Jones and Conor McGregor are absent.

The UFC White House event has been in the conversation for almost one year now, and the hype around it was massive. One of the most important highlights of UFC 326 was the announcement of the White House event fight card. UFC CEO Dana White was present to discuss the card; however, the reaction from fans was rather underwhelming, despite the scale.

In the main event of the White House event, the UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria will be making his return. ‘El Matador’ will take on interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, who recently won against Paddy Pimblett. Gaethje is a patriotic person who would take the opportunity to represent the US against the Georgian-Spanish champion.

In the co-main event, heavyweight Ciryl Gane will take on Alex Pereira in an interim heavyweight title bout. Previously, Pereira was expected to fight Jon Jones at the White House event, given their previous verbal negotiations. Recently, Dana White has mentioned that one of the planned fights for this card didn’t happen as discussions changed.

Many fans predicted this could be the matchup that fell apart after earlier talks between Jon Jones and Alex Pereira. On top of that, White was never confident about giving Jones such an important opportunity on a historic card. Apart from this, former UFC champion Sean O’Malley will fight Aiemann Zahab for a much-anticipated bantamweight clash.

Sean O’Malley has already been part of UFC Noche at the Las Vegas Sphere, which was previously the biggest event from the promotion in terms of scale. The UFC invested approximately $20 million in the massive event, transforming it into one of the most ambitious shows ever. Reports have suggested that for the White House event, the amount has tripled, making it an even bigger spectacle.

Nevertheless, the White House event also features a lightweight clash between Michael Chandler and Mauricio Ruffy. Chandler originally believed he would be fighting Conor McGregor, but recent developments suggest that fight was unlikely now. Irrespective of his current losing streak, Chandler continues to remain one of the most entertaining fighters on the roster.

The fight card also features Bo Nickal vs Kyle Daukaus in a much-anticipated middleweight bout scheduled for the massive card. Nickal is one of the most popular fighters in the American wrestling community and even knows Donald Trump personally. For the rising fighter, it presents an opportunity to carry forward his winning momentum and get closer to top ranked opponents.

A dominant victory on such a historic stage could significantly boost Nickal’s reputation inside the promotion and among fans worldwide. Finally, Diego Lopes vs Steve Garcia was the last announced fight of the card so far. The bout promises fireworks, considering both fighters are known for their aggressive styles and willingness to trade heavy strikes.

Many fans believe the fight would be a perfect way to kick off the massive event with excitement. With several explosive matchups already announced, the White House event has definitely turned some heads, but ultimately, fans aren’t that satisfied.
