On Wednesday, Major League Baseball (MLB) banned a fan from all major ballparks after his actions towards Ketel Marte. The fan would make some insensitive comments towards the player, which led to him breaking down in tears on the field.
In the game between the Chicago White Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday at Rate Field, Marte opened the scoring for his team with a solo home run in the 1st inning. This turned out to be his 15th home run of the year.
With his team leading 4-1 in the 7th inning, Marte was seen with tears in his eyes. During the pitching change, the 2-time MLB All-Star was seen getting consoled by his manager, Torey Lovullo, and his teammate, Geraldo Perdomo.
As per reports, the fan would make some ugly comments regarding Elpidia Valdez, the late mother of Marte. She tragically passed away in 2017 during a car accident in the Dominican Republic. The fan was later ejected from the game.

The fan was later identified as a 22-year-old. The league has now banned him from all MLB ballparks following this action. According to reports from ESPN, the fan is said to be “remorseful” for their action and admitted to making inappropriate comments.
This is not the first time a fan has made improper comments towards a player. In April, during the game between the Cleveland Guardians and the Boston Red Sox at Progressive Field, a fan would brutally heckle Jarren Duran and bring up his suicide attempt. The fan was removed from the game, and the Guardians would later issue an apology to Duran and the Red Sox.

I had a little bit of an interaction with him as I was yelling at him and he wasn’t getting it, was very pompous. It didn’t sit right with me… We need better baseball fans. Baseball deserves better.
