Russian tennis ace Daniil Medvedev has shared his admiration for Carlos Alcaraz as the former World No. 1 gears up to face the defending champion in the semifinal of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. When Medvedev was asked to name the quality that he finds special in Alcaraz, the Russian said “everything“.

However, the Russian ace delved into the details as he dissected Alcaraz’s strengths. Medvedev talked about the power with which Alcaraz can hit his shots, separating him from the lot. The World No. 5 also hailed the Spaniard for his ability to hit winners from any position on the court.

Medvedev claimed that only a few players possess this ability to “do whatever from any position”. The Russian star sounded impressed with the way Alcaraz played against Tommy Paul in the quarterfinal on Tuesday.

As soon as he had a shot where he could go for it, he went for it and he always put it in...You know whatever shot you hit, he can hit a winner from there...There are not many players like this...Carlos can do whatever from any position and that’s not easy to play against.

While Daniil Medvedev praised Carlos Alcaraz for his power and ability to hit a winner from any position, the Spaniard heaped praise on his semifinal opponent for his unbreachable defense. Alcaraz compared Medvedev with a wall as the ball bounces back every time.

The 21-year-old also talked about Medvedev’s form at this year’s Wimbledon and noted that the Russian ace has been in red-hot form. However, Alcaraz is drawing inspiration from his win over Medvedev in last year’s semifinal. The Spaniard had defeated Medvedev in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to register his first win over the Russian on grass.

Now, as the two players line up against each other, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Both Alcaraz and Medvedev have played some great tennis so far in the season. However, the title-winning performance at 2024 Roland Garros seems to have skyrocketed Alcaraz’s confidence, and the defending champion might pull off a repeat of 2023.
