As anticipation builds for WWE’s first-ever two-night SummerSlam PLE, creative plans are beginning to take shape. And it wouldn’t be a true ‘Big 4’ spectacle without some celebrity power. Staying true to tradition, the stardom spotlight will shine once again in just under three weeks, as singer and actor Jelly Roll is set to make his much-anticipated in-ring debut.

The said development, courtesy of PWInsider, is all but a done deal. As per the outlet, Roll has been training to wrestle at ‘The Biggest Party of the Summer’. Moreover, the 40-year-old will be integrated into a storyline that would see him align with a top babyface as early as this Friday’s SmackDown in Nashville. The report clarified that the said baby face could be anyone but Cody Rhodes.

In fact, ‘The American Nightmare’ has his hands full as he’s slated to challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE title at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. With Rhodes not in the mix for partnering up with the multi-platinum recording artist, who could it possibly be? Also, the WWE Universe has seen what Roll can do inside the squared circle. Last year, he launched an assault on Austin Theory and Grayson Waller.

The singer-rapper would then go on to chokeslam Theory. He followed it up with a five-knuckle shuffle on the A-Town Down Under member alongside The Miz and R-Truth. Roll did experience some discomfort while getting back up from being grounded for the move, but Miz and Truth bailed him out.

It would be interesting to see what has changed in the 40-year-old artist in terms of his bump-taking abilities from the last time, considering he has lost a ton of weight, as it was evident from his appearance at WrestleMania 41 earlier this year.

The reported plans for Jelly Roll to compete at SummerSlam have sparked an online discourse among the wrestling circles. The following reactions on X speak volumes about the unanimous notion of the WWE Universe against letting an out-of-shape celebrity like Roll take up someone else’s spot on the card.

Most of the users can’t stand the fact that some of the full-time wrestlers on the roster will have to take a hit to make way for the singer-rapper. Some in the comments brought up AEW star Kenny Omega‘s previous comments about a future WrestleMania potentially hosting a Logan Paul vs. Mr. Beast match as its main event.

For the unversed, Omega, in an interview, swiped at WWE’s obsession with endless celebrity involvement on their shows. One miffed user quipped that they may switch to watching AEW as a regular viewer by next month based on what WWE is prioritizing at the moment. Moreover, it’s already in the public domain that Cardi B will serve as the hostess for both nights of this year’s SummerSlam.

WWE has a golden opportunity to come up with an exciting showcase for SummerSlam. John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes, as mentioned earlier, is the only match made official thus far. They’ll lock horns with the Undisputed WWE Championship at stake.

Moreover, the 2025 Queen of the Ring, Jade Cargill, will get to challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship. Apart from these two showdowns, everything else is in flux. However, a highly anticipated Roman Reigns return is expected to lead to a multi-man tag team match with Seth Rollins‘ faction.

Also, an Intercontinental Championship match between AJ Styles and Dominik Mysterio is reportedly in the cards and could be announced anytime soon. It’ll be interesting to see who will have the World Heavyweight title heading into the two-night PLE, as the reigning champ, Gunther, has a title defense against Goldberg this weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
