After almost a six-month hiatus, MJF returned to AEW at Double or Nothing. It was reminiscent to Triple H‘s comeback from injury back in 2002. He interrupted former tag team partner Adam Cole‘s harangue, who was holding the Devil’s mask. After denigrating the city of Las Vegas, Cole was about to do his signature crowd pose. However, just then, the lights went off, leading to a symphony on the jumbotron.

It led to a vignette, followed by Maxwell Jacob Friedman‘s battle hymn hitting the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. MJF headed to the ring and came face-to-face with Adam Cole. The fans thought that Max will wipe the ignorance off Adam’s face. However, the two hugged it out, though transiently. Friedman kicked the 34-year-old in his balls before gaining hold of the microphone.

He said he didn’t need any of those schmucks backstage to elevate him to a level where he’s today. The Salt of the Earth then namedropped former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, much to the bafflement of those in attendance. Max picked up the grounded mask of the Devil, saying it’s adorned by cowards who want to hide. The former AEW Champion then claimed that he doesn’t need a mask to prove that no one’s on the level of the devil.

Alluding to Cole’s betrayal at AEW Worlds End last year, MJF said anything and everything that the goofy mask symbolized could go straight to hell. The Two Year Vet stomped and even dumped it with an elbow drop. Last but not least, he cleared the air on his contractual status saying that he’s not leaving AEW. He bolstered his commitment to the company by showcasing a tattoo for the same on his ankle.

As the fans could spot, MJF wore a leather jacket similar to what Triple H sported during his unexpected return at MSG back in 2002. Though it was a great ode to The Game, the netizens on X took it otherwise and trolled Maxwell for being a Triple H rip-off. One even called it cringe.

Most of them claimed that Jacob might’ve found Hunter’s classic raiment but not his shtick. There were also arguments made that the unforgettable moment from over two decades back could never be topped.

A fan also said that MJF looked like a juiced up Corey Matthews. One even brought up Max’s reverence for the WWE CCO and that’s why his act shouldn’t be blown out of proportion.
