Brazilian starlet Vitor Roque opened up about his career turmoil over the past few months, after scoring a brace for Brazil under-20s in a 3-2 win over Mexico. Fans reacted to the 19-year-old star’s response, blaming Barcelona for the the forward’s struggles.  

Vitor Roque joined Real Betis this summer on a two-year loan deal, after falling out of favor at Barcelona, just seven months after making a move from Athletico Paranaense. Despite being backed to become a star at the Catalan club, he could just score two goals in 16 matches last season. The club later decided against keeping him in the squad this season owing to his poor development, with a number of Saudi PL clubs also interested. He ultimately decided to join La Liga giants Betis.

Roque broke his silence on his failed spell, after recently scoring in a 3-2 win for Brazil U-20s. He admitted that he was baffled by Barcelona’s treatment of him, and also pointed to the mental difficulties that he had to face. He reiterated his desire to remain committed and focused at Betis. The 19-year-old forward also admitted that he laughed and joked for the first time over the past few months after scoring for the national team, and also thanked his teammates for helping him enjoy the international break.

Roque played 82 minutes for the Brazilian under-20 side in their win against Mexico, while also wearing the captain’s armband. It remains to be seen what comes ahead for the young forward, who has made just one appearance off the bench for Real Betis till now.

Fans slam Barcelona for mistreating forward Vitor Roque, who joined Real Betis on loan this summer

Football fans took to social media to express their disappointment with the Barcelona management for their treatment of young forward Vitor Roque. The youngster was not deemed talented enough to remain a part of the club’s first team, after just spending a few months there.

Some fans stated that his stint at Barcelona had traumatized him, leading to a drop in his form. A few others blamed Xavi for ruining his talent, by rushing his arrival at Camp Nou. Some others still backed Roque to become a star, after having decided to leave Barcelona, while some expressed their happiness for the player upon his transfer to Real Betis. 

The 19-year-old has joined Betis on a two-year loan deal, with a €25 million purchase option also available at the end of his deal. In case he impresses, Barcelona might decide to bring him back at the end of his loan tenure.
