Manchester United started the post-Erik ten Hag era in a superb manner, defeating Leicester City 5-2 in a Carabao Cup round of 16 encounter. Interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy marked his first win as United manager, leading the Red Devils to the next round.

The Red Devils decimated their Premier league rivals, helped by goals from Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho. The veteran Brazilian midfielder, who had been criticized for his weak displays in earlier matches, opened the scoring with a brilliant long-range strike.

Garnacho doubled United’s lead in the 33rd minute, followed by Bruno’s superb free-kick goal. Casemiro found the back of the net once again in the 39th minute, before the United skipper sealed a comfortable win through a second-half goal.

It marked a brilliant start to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s interim era after he took charge replacing Dutchman Erik ten Hag. The former Ajax boss was fired after a string of poor performances and the club’s worst start to an EPL season.

Moreover, United impressed through their impressive fire power in the front, which did away with the issues that they had in the defense. Van Nistelrooy is expected to take charge until the club’s next EPL encounter against Chelsea, awaiting the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim.

Replacing Erik ten Hag, Amorim is expected to arrive in Manchester in the coming weeks, ending his long-standing association with Portuguese giants Sporting CP. The win marked United’s heaviest victory margin against a Premier league opponent since August 2021.

Fans shared their reactions on social media, with some stating that the Dutchman was always the problem, and that even the players were tired of him. Some others pointed to the fact that Ten Hag had lost the confidence of the dressing room. A few others hilariously stated that Ten Hag had suffocated United’s goal-scoring prowess.

Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur, who surprisingly eliminated Manchester City, in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils will also hope to better their position on the EPL table, as they are currently lying in the 14th place with just 11 points.
