The 2023 NASCAR Truck Series championship final race at the Phoenix Raceway saw a fervent battle for supremacy taking an unexpected twist. Championship contenders were locked in fierce combat, with Corey Heim and Carson Hocevar at the forefront. It was a messy, vengeful match that ruined both of their races, triggering massive fan backlash.
Hocevar made a controversial move when he spun Heim out with 35 laps to go in the Truck championship race at Phoenix. This incident occurred shortly after Heim had successfully passed Hocevar for the lead. Hocevar claimed it was unintentional, but his history of purposeful spins raised suspicions about his intentions, leaving the regular season champion frustrated and challenging. Heim displayed resilience, advancing to 12th place, while Hocevar, starting second, dropped to 18th.
Corey Heim enacted his vengeance on Carson Hocevar during the 147th lap as the race climaxed. With Hocevar closing in on Heim for the 10th position, Heim made a deliberate maneuver to the right, propelling Hocevar into the wall as a counterattack for their previous altercation. This collision incited pandemonium, entangling both of their trucks and compelling Taylor Gray to take evasive action to steer clear of the unfolding tumult.

Following the incident, Hocevar went on to the radio to say, “That’s fair.” As the race resumed post-red flag, Heim fought to regain his foothold in the championship contest while Rhodes and Enfinger vied for a clean, competitive finish. Rhodes edged out Heim to claim the championship. However, it was the bitter personal duel between Hocevar and Heim that was the eye of the storm.
Fans claim that the Truck Series is a joke and an embarrassment
Fans displayed evident frustration over the acrimonious altercation, labeling the drivers in the junior categories as “spoiled brats.” Some went so far as to describe the Truck Series as a source of disgrace. The initial spin dealt a severe blow to Heim’s championship aspirations, forcing him to relinquish any hopes of securing the title.
Hocevar and Heim, the top two contenders for the championship, collided in a manner that prompted comments criticizing the lack of respect for the racing equipment among current drivers. A segment of the fan base attributed the incident to Heim’s error and called for stern penalties, while others took a divergent perspective.
The other faction of fans contended that this episode represented a form of karmic retribution for the actions of the #42 driver, thus justifying Heim’s retaliatory measures. Grant Enfinger, who was affected by the red flag, found himself in a challenging position, needing to mount a significant resurgence, while Rhodes had an apparent advantage in the race for the championship title.
So glad that Kevin Harvick, a respected legend of the sport, is retiring this weekend as the spoiled brat no talent future of the sport is on full display.
