Exactly a year ago, the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto bore witness to Adam Copeland fka Edge‘s swansong in WWE. On his way out, the 50-year-old beat Sheamus. The two men would then go on to hug each other. At that juncture, it wasn’t believed that it’d be his final match in WWE. Edge even had the option to extend his contract, but he didn’t.
WWE wasn’t left with any long-term creative plans for The Rated-R Superstar. They allegedly viewed him as a part-time attraction, popping up once every three months. That would’ve given Adam his answer on whether it would’ve been worth re-signing with the company. As a result, he joined All Elite Wrestling. His debut sent shockwaves through the fans when the 11-time World Champion showed up at WrestleDream pay-per-view.
After that, The Master Manipulator was entangled with a highly engrossing saga with his childhood friend-turned-foe, Christian Cage. The encounters they’ve had have roped in a ton of acclaim from fans and critics alike. Edge was seemingly having a ball with his stint in AEW until he ruptured his tibia this year at Double or Nothing.
He was up against Malakai Black. Copeland would be ruing perching atop the zenith of the cage to execute an elbow drop on the House of Black leader. His landing was so abrupt that it engendered a palpable wince from not only those in attendance but also those watching at home.
Apart from that, a memorable spot from the match included an appearance from Gangrel. The latter was a mentor to the Canadian great back when he was in The Brood. Edge tried to have him involved at WrestleMania 39 as well. But WWE rejected his plea, citing that the fans wouldn’t even recognize Gangrel anymore.
Fans slam Edge aka Adam Copeland following sub-par switch to AEW
There’s currently no update on the expected date for Adam Copeland‘s return to AEW television. The fans would hope it’s not too little, too late. However, now that he’s a year apart from the last time he wrestled in WWE, there’s a bunch of fans who believe he shouldn’t have left the place at this stage of his career.
While fans did appreciate Copeland’s feud with Christian in AEW, there are some who believe that The Rated-R Superstar is washed. At last, there were folks, though a handful of them, who still think Cope would end his career in WWE.
However, considering he doesn’t have much time left as an active pro wrestler, the chances of him going back to WWE are slim. Edge had numerous breathtaking showdowns while he was in his former workplace. His classic feud with Seth Rollins stands out the most.
