Indian Cricket Team, in the absence of their captain Rohit Sharma, registered a thumping victory against Australia in the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at the Optus Stadium in Perth by 295 runs. Now, it is time for the second Test match which will be a Day/Night Test match with the Pink ball at the Adelaide Oval starting on December 6.
Earlier this week, the Indian team with Sharma and Shubman Gill played the Pink ball practice game against Prime Minister’s XI and won the match. The team has now reached Adelaide and have also started their preparations for the second Test match against Australia.
One video has gone viral on social media where the team, along with Virat Kohli, can be seen doing their warm-ups. Fans in the gallery who gathered to watch them were cheering for “King Kohli” and his team.
Talking about Kohli, he smashed his 81st international century and his 30th Test ton in the second innings of the first Test. He remained not out on 100 runs off 143 deliveries as the team gave the Aussies 534 runs to chase.
Kohli had been under tremendous pressure coming into that Test match on the back of a poor home series against New Zealand. Prior to the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, he had scored just two centuries in Test cricket in the last five years.
Gautam Gambhir is back with the team for the Adelaide Test
Head Coach Gautam Gambhir left the team for India due to personal reasons after the Perth Test, possibly due to a medical emergency of his family member. He was not present in the Pink ball practice game against Prime Minister’s XI.
However, the former Indian opener has now rejoined his team in Adelaide and have started preparations for going 2-0 up in the series.
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings for the team in the absence of Sharma. Both of them stitched together a 201-runs partnership in the second innings of the first Test and were instrumental in the team’s victory. Rahul played sensationally well against the new ball in both innings, and it now remains to be seen if Sharma will open the second Test or bat in the middle order.
Gill will also be back for this Test match after missing the first due to a thumb injury. He has batted at number three in Test cricket since the WTC 2023 Final. So, there are some decisions to make for the team management in terms of the batting order going into the second Test match.
