Emma Raducanu‘s decision to pull out of the mixed doubles match with Andy Murray did not sit well with fans, for the match would have turned out to be his final one at Wimbledon. Although Murray did receive an emotional farewell after crashing out of the doubles match along with his brother Jamie Murray at Wimbledon, the tennis fraternity was waiting for Murray to play his final match at his home Grand Slam tournament.

Fans on social media are divided as many of them are taking Murray’s side, but some are coming up with reasons to defend the 21-year-old. Raducanu blamed the stiffness in her wrist as the reason behind withdrawing from the match.

Murray’s mother Judy Murray‘s “Yes, astonishing,” remarks on X also invited fresh criticism toward the youngster as fans guessed the Murray family was not at all happy with Raducanu’s decision. Judy later defended herself by blaming Wimbledon’s schedule

A fan on X feels Emma Raducanu is getting all the hate just because she is a woman. She slammed the Daily Mail‘s article, the headline of which implied that it was Raducanu who ended Andy Murray‘s career.

The tweet went viral and triggered another discussion. While some said that the fans shouldn’t target a woman because Murray has always supported women, some felt Murray was the one who ended his career by pulling out of the singles matches.

Check the reactions here:

Murray injured his back during last month’s Queen’s Club Championships and after undergoing surgery he waited for the last moment to make a decision on whether to play singles or not. The Wimbledon doubles match, however, was not Murray’s final show on tennis courts as he is set to play at the 2024 Paris Olympics, after which he will finally bid farewell to tennis.

In his career, Murray lifted three Grand Slam titles and advanced to several major finals. But the unfortunate hip injury spoiled his chances to win more titles at the biggest level.

Raducanu on the other hand is a 2021 US Open champion and reached the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second time in her career. Last year she did not play at the SW19 because of injuries on her wrists and ankle.
