Kevin Durant has had quite the year so far. First, he went to Paris and overcame injury to help Team USA clinch the gold medal. Then, after coming back, he endured one of the most difficult seasons in his long and illustrious career.
The Phoenix Suns were a mess, and most of the blame was placed on the players. His altercations with then-head coach Mike Budenholzer had fans believing something was not right inside the locker rooms in Arizona.
On top of that, there were reports of a toxic environment inside those locker rooms. Durant and his teammates ended up reiterating that ESPN’s report on this matter was based on lies, and there were no such problems among the teammates.
However, there were rumors that the Slim Reaper was willing to move on, but not before the February trade deadline. Now, those rumors have turned into reality after the Houston Rockets traded for him.
After such a difficult year, the 15-time All-Star can breathe a sigh of relief. To ensure he enjoys his offseason before reporting to his new place of work, the 36-year-old travelled to the UK to vibe to some music from his close friend Drake.
He took along his former teammate, Devin Booker. The latter had just become the highest-paid athlete in American sports and chose Drake’s set at the Wireless Festival to celebrate. A clip of the duo dapping up Drake went viral.

Another video has gone viral over the past several hours. This video is also from a concert, but it is unclear if it is at the Wireless Festival. The clip shows Kevin Durant drawing a couple of puffs from a weed cigarette.
Kevin Durant smoking weed draws reactions from fans
At first, many fans were enraged that a player as accomplished as Kevin Durant was smoking weed in public. Moreover, as a top-tier athlete, such habits are frowned upon, and fans believe he is not being a good example to others.
On the contrary, there were many fans who came out to defend the 2-time champion. They made it clear that a lot of athletes smoke weed or resort to marijuana. It is a known factor in the NBA and other sporting disciplines, and leagues do not make a fuss about it.
Fans also reiterated that if the NBA had a problem with this, there would have been a ban. However, there is no such ban. Since many players successfully play in the league despite such habits, fans defended the newest member of the Houston Rockets, examples of which are below.

Kevin Durant is looking forward to his 19th season in the league. The DC native has struggled with injuries in the past, but team medical staff never blamed weed as a reason. Moreover, he has actively asked the league to allow players to use marijuana.
Kevin Durant hilariously convinced Adam Silver to allow marijuana
As per the previous CBA, marijuana was on the list of banned substances. However, over the past few years, its use has become more of a recreation than one that can be beneficial to an athlete. Kevin Durant told CNBC how he convinced Commissioner Adam Silver to take marijuana off the banned list.

He smelt it when I walked in, so I didn’t really have to say much. He understood where this was going. I mean, it’s the NBA, everybody does it. It’s like wine at this point.

The Rockets star added that the stigma around marijuana was no longer there. That is why when he advocated for Silver to remove it from the banned substances list, he agreed. The result is in the 2023 CBA, where marijuana is no longer on the banned list.
