Kevin Garnett is often regarded as one of the greatest players to ever don the Minnesota Timberwolves jersey. While the power forward did not deliver a championship with the Wolves, he did take the franchise to the Western Conference Finals in 2004 before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers led by Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant in six games.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest power forwards to ever play the game, Kevin Garnett did go on to achieve several accolades during his first stint with the Wolves from 1995-2007. “The Big Ticket” was picked by the Wolves as the number five pick in the 1995 NBA draft. He won his lone league MVP award in 2004, claimed four rebounding titles and was nominated as an NBA All-Star several times.
But the decline began from the 2004-05 season as the Wolves failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in eight years. The following seasons led to more frustrations as the Wolves lost some of their star players, which resulted in losing records in the regular seasons, which eventually led to Garnett being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2008. The move turned out to be fruitful for Garnet as he won his first and only championship with the esteemed franchise, beating the Lakers in six games.
Garnett returned to the Wolves for a second stint in the middle of the 2014-15 campaign. He stayed for another campaign and played 38 games before being ruled out for the season due to a knee injury and eventually announcing his retirement.
ESPN reporter Shams Charania reported that the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year would be reuniting with both the Wolves and the Minnesota Lynx in a new role involving business, fan-engagement efforts and content development.

It is a proud moment for Garnett and the franchise, as the former had been distant from the club since his retirement in 2016 due to a fallout with former owner Glen Taylor.

This isn't a reunion, it's a restructuring. KG froze his assets until the toxic leadership was divested. New management came in, cleared the balance sheet of bad blood, and now they get to unlock the value. This is how you execute a turnaround strategy.

Kevin Garnett to have his no.21 jersey retired in Minnesota
If there is one player who deserves to have his jersey retired in Minnesota, it is Kevin Garnett. During his two stints with the Wolves, Garnett broke several franchise records. He is the Timberwolves’ all-time leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks, making him the only NBA player in league history to lead a franchise in those five categories.

As mentioned earlier, Garnett won his lone league MVP award in 2004, which makes him the only player in Timberwolves history to win the award to date. The fallout with Taylor led him to refuse his jersey to be retired in Minnesota.
