The defending champions, Oklahoma City Thunder, look unbeatable at the moment. Currently, they sit at the top of the Western Conference standings with a 18-1 record and topped in West Group A of the NBA Cup, unbeaten in their three games after a close victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday.

It has been a rough stretch for the Timberwolves as they lost their third consecutive game while OKC are unbeaten in their last ten matches. After two disappointing losses against the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings, the Wolves stepped it up and brought more energy against the reigning champions.

It was always going to be a stern test for the Wolves as OKC have the strongest defense, have depth and are one of the fastest teams in the league. But it becomes even more difficult when the benefit of doubt on foul calls ends up going in their favor most of the time.

One such instance took place during the game in the second quarter when Wolves center Rudy Gobert swiped down his hand towards OKC center Isaiah Hartenstein. Hartenstein made the most of it and flopped making it look like he was hit on the face. After reviewing the play, Gobert was given a technical foul, which was a surprise to many as it did not deserve to even be called for a foul.

Fans could not believe that a technical foul was called on Rudy Gobert

The technical foul call on Gobert shocked the fans which prompted them to express their disappointment and anger on social media. Many of them were in disbelief and believed this happens way too much for the OKC. Here are some of the reactions:

OKC have the best squad

The gap between OKC and the rest is pretty visible at the moment. Wednesday’s win will be a confidence booster as they enter a tough run of fixtures.

OKC head coach Mark Daigneault was proud of his team after the win and his near-perfect squad.

It was a game that was in the mud. There were stretches in the game that were very difficult for us. It was a game that was in the mud. There were stretches in the game that were very difficult for us. I thought both teams played a hard, physical game. That’s why it was good for us. We’re a better team, having played that game.

Reigning league MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued to do what he does with another 40-point game to go along with six rebounds and six assists. The guard will be looking to add another MVP award to his name and is currently averaging 32.6 points this campaign, trailing only Luka Doncic, who is averaging 35.2 points.
