‘Timeless” Toni Storm defended her AEW Women’s Championship against Stardom superstar Mina Shirakawa at the recent Forbidden Door Pay-Per-View. This was being called her toughest title defense yet. This was not just because of the strength of the competitor, but also because the two competitors were unofficially battling for the the affection of Mariah May.

After the match ended with the champion retaining her title, Mariah May stepped into the ring to make peace between the competitors. However, her style of doing so was highly questionable. The crowd chanted for the three competitors to hug it out and settle their differences, which they did. However, the 25-year-old wanted to take things a little further.

May grabbed both of them by the neck, pouted her lips, and gave them a suggestive look. She slowly brought their heads closer together while leaning in herself. The crowd erupted as the competitors had a triple kiss. Although the fighting princess looked delighted after the kiss, Mina Shirakawa and Toni Storm were equally taken aback.

Mariah May also competed at the show. She was part of the Women’s Owen Hart tournament and faced Saraya in the first round. She emerged victorious and will advance to the second round of the memorial tournament.

The wrestling world was mindblown after witnessing this triple kiss between the female superstars. They joked about how this was a perfect way to end pride month. They also brought up the ‘Hot Lesbian Action’ segment put on by Vince McMahon on Monday Night Raw in 2002, involving similar undertones. Older wrestling fans were happy to see some of the craziness of the Attitude Era return to professional wrestling.

However, this segment was not free from criticism. May’s mutual friendship with the AEW Women’s Championship and Shirakawa was a focal point of the story heading into this match. This was also one of the most character-driven stories AEW has put on in recent times. However, fans seemed dissatisfied with the payoff.

AEW has repeatedly faced criticism for the over-sexualisation of Toni Storm’s character. She often uses sexually implicit analogies and NSFW slang. Even her finisher involves hitting people with her rear end. Furthermore, this is not the first time she kissed a wrestler in-ring. During a previous defense of her title, she also kissed Saraya in the middle of the ring. Similarly, her companion has also used several NSFW moves involving her breasts in her matches.
