This past November, Goldberg appeared on SEC Nation to announce that he’ll have a WWE retirement match in 2025. But he refrained from telling when that would be. It seems like the fans will soon get an answer as the WWE Hall of Famer is reportedly returning to Raw on January 27, per Dave Meltzer.
That week, WWE will be at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia—the place where the 58-year-old icon is billed from. WWE did run that building back in October for the Bad Blood PLE. Goldberg was in attendance, enjoying a front-row seat with his son and wife. He caught the attention of the reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, who ranted about the wrestling legend.
The Ring General called Bill a one-trick pony. In one of the most personal insults, Gunther trash talked with Goldberg’s son, Gage, and told the latter that he hoped Bill was a better father than he is a professional wrestler. After that, the former WCW Champion jumped the barricade and was willing to take the gauntlet to the Imperium leader.
However, the security didn’t allow that to happen. Even though Gunther and Goldberg didn’t get physical, that segment pretty much planted the seeds for their potential showdown in the future. On the contrary, a previous report suggested that WWE has moved away from that idea.
The report also added that Goldberg may have a couple of matches left in the tank before riding off into the sunset. If not Gunther, one name that immediately pops into mind who could be a smart choice to be pitted against Bill Goldberg is Bron Breakker. The latter has received props from Bill for his explosiveness in the ring.
Fans vent frustration with Goldberg’s impending return to WWE
As it has been the case for a long time now, the majority of the WWE fanbase doesn’t have any interest left in seeing Goldberg wrestle again. With the amount of young talent he’s been booked to bury in the past, the fans have turned their backs on the erstwhile football defensive tackle.

A few of the peeps who’re fine with Goldberg wrapping up his career on his terms believe Bron Breakker should be the one facing him. Even if it’s Gunther, the netizens want the Austrian to squash the HOF’er, as evident by the following reactions on X.
It appears that the fans are totally against Goldberg eating up a major spot on this year’s WrestleMania card. They believe he could do it on any other PLE but Mania.
