British tennis ace Andy Murray has pulled out of the singles event of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, leaving his fans heartbroken. With the 37-year-old recuperating from back surgery, he has decided against competing in the singles event and will only play in doubles. The two-time Wimbledon champion will bid farewell to the fans at his home Major by competing alongside his brother Jamie Murray.

Andy’s team confirmed on Tuesday (July 2) that the Briton will be unable to compete in singles despite working hard on regaining match fitness. They also stated that he was looking forward to playing in the doubles event at his last Wimbledon appearance.

Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year. As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie and looks forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time.

Murray had a cyst close to his spinal cord removed recently as it was causing nerve pain in his right leg. This meant he needed time to bounce back and playing in singles could hurt his recovery.

Murray was slated to face Tomas Machac in the first round at the Wimbledon. He will now pair up with his brother for the doubles and will take on John Peers and Rinky Hijikata in the opening round.
