WNBA rebounding star Angel Reese sat on the bench as her Chicago Sky welcomed the Atlanta Dream to their home. She is out with a back injury and watched as her teammates did their best against a powerhouse opponent.

After winning their previous game, the Sky tried to compete with that same momentum and battled closely with the Dream. However, in the second half, the visiting team opened their taps and obliterated the Sky in both remaining quarters to win the game 86-65.

In the final few seconds of the game, the home team had the ball in their hands, and they dribbled up as the seconds counted down. As soon as Rachel Banham crossed half court, a purple NSFW toy landed just a yard before the center logo.

This happens to be the fourth time such a toy was thrown while a WNBA game was in session. The first perpetrator has been identified and arrested. This is the second time that this incident has happened in Chicago.

The perpetrator from that game is yet to be identified. That time, a neon green variant was used to bring the game to a halt. This time, it was a different color, but nevertheless had the same impact.

Last time, the incident shocked Angel Reese. This time, her reaction was not captured on camera, but her teammates, along with Dream players, were left making hand gestures, suggesting they were not happy with this incident.

All of this after the WNBA introduced a ‘no bag policy’ effective from the previous night’s game. This means the perpetrator probably carried the toy into the arena hidden inside their clothes, similar to how an 18-year-old did in a game at Phoenix.

Fans fume as WNBA cannot control NSFW toy incidents

When the first few incidents happened, basketball fans took the situation lightly, believing it was a prank. But now, these situations are repeating, painting the WNBA in a bad light.

Despite their ‘no bag policy’ and increased security, fans are still able to enter arenas with such NSFW toys hidden. Fans are asking what the league is doing to ensure its players are safe. They believe the WNBA is not doing justice to its players or staff.

Moreover, bringing games to a grinding halt is adding to the furor, as fans want the league to step up and do something about it. Check out examples of those reactions below:

If these incidents continue to hamper games, it might come to a situation where players might force the league’s hand and refuse to play. So far, none of the toys has hit a player hard enough to injure them, but if one such incident happens, it could become a serious problem for the league.

Sky fans appear with ‘pay the players’ cards

The WNBA is in the midst of CBA negotiations with its players. Such NSFW toy-throwing incidents could hamper those talks as players might force the league’s hand and ask for more security.

When they first came out with ‘Pay us what you owe us’ t-shirts at the All-Star game, players were surprised when Indiana Fever fans supported them with ‘pay them’ chants.

Since then, there have not been any sightings of such support, until today. A post from Front Office Sports’ Colin Salao revealed that a few fans, some of them season-ticket holders, held up ‘Pay the Players’ cards throughout the game.

Some of them had bracelets made with the message. Fan support seems to be rising again, and it might help Angel Reese and her peers to finally meet their goals and get the revenue share they have been asking for.
