Inter Miami full-back Jordi Alba criticized the MLS playoffs format following his club’s 3-2 defeat to Atlanta United. The former Barcelona man labeled the postseason format ‘unfair’ after his team was eliminated in a three-match playoff series.
The Herons suffered a shock defeat to Atlanta United at the Chase Stadium in Miami. This dashed their hopes of qualifying for the next round of the MLS playoffs. The new MLS format sees teams compete in a three-match series to make it to the next round, en route to winning the MLS Cup.
Despite having defeated Atlanta in the first match, the MLS Supporters’ Shield winners went on to suffer two back-to-back losses against a team that finished ninth in the Eastern Conference standings. Jordi Alba, who scored a brilliant goal in the opening match, criticized the MLS postseason format.
The Spaniard stated that his team wanted to win the MLS Cup more. While calling the knock-out format ‘unfair’, the 35-year-old suggested that the MLS Cup final should be held between the leaders of both conferences.

Nonetheless, Alba praised Atlanta United for their impressive display and highlighted goalkeeper Brad Guzan’s performance. Inter Miami suffered a defeat, despite Lionel Messi finding the back of the net. Jamal Thiare’s brace and Bartosz Slisz‘s winner helped Atlanta prevail.

Jordi Alba and his Inter Miami side’s MLS playoff journey came to a disappointing end following shock defeats to Atlanta United in a three-match contest. The ex-Barca defender was laughed at by fans after he later suggested a change in the play-offs format.

Despite the recent setback, Inter Miami were the best team throughout the MLS regular season. They ended the season in the top position, creating an MLS record for the most points.
