Manchester United has confirmed that around 200 staffers are set to lose their jobs at the club as a part of a recent cost-cutting measure by the new owners, INEOS. Apart from job cuts, the club is also closing down its staff canteen at Old Trafford.
The club announced its first wave of job losses last year, axing around 250 employees. In another wave of job losses this summer, Manchester United is hoping to cut down on the financial losses of around £300 million that the club has incurred over the last three years. United CEO Omar Berrada announced the recent redundancies, highlighting the wide-ranging measures that would transform the club.
Manchester United’s revenues dropped down to £198 million in the last three months of 2024 from £225 million earlier. Along with job cuts of around 200 employees, the club is also planning on moving staff members from offices at Old Trafford to Carrington. Sources added that the club is also reconsidering its payments to the Manchester United Foundation in the coming months.

Additionally, in order to cut down on the excessive costs, Manchester United owners have also decided to close down the staff canteen and end free lunches. An estimated £1 million would be saved every year. The club has also reduced its lunch menu at the Carrington training ground, offering only sandwiches and soup to coaches and analysts.

Meanwhile, some other cuts have seen the new owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, cancelling United’s annual Christmas party. Hilariously, the club had also requested rivals Man City to allow two of its players to travel on their flight en route to the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Interestingly, Manchester United under-18s were recently denied the opportunity to play at the Old Trafford in the FA Youth Cup. The match was instead played at the Leigh Sports Village, saving the club around £8000.
