Baker Mayfield and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 4-1. That makes it their best start when the quarterback has manned their most important position. The surge to this record, though, has not come easily.

In their first three games, the Buccaneers were pushed to the brink of a loss. That is, until Mayfield decided the game was not over, and either orchestrated drives to lead his team into scoring positions.

Or, he was doing it himself, scrambling, or throwing the ball well enough to set up game-winning scores. Those performances led many to call him the most clutch quarterback in the league.

In their four wins, the Bucs won by an average of 2 points, proving how close the games were. It is a major shift for the franchise, which lost quite a few close games in the past.

In those seasons, many understood that this was a team that was a couple of wins away from becoming a Super Bowl threat. This season, Baker Mayfield is not letting those missed chances get to them.

When lining up to face the Seattle Seahawks in their home, the 30-year-old was waiting with his teammates. At this time, a passionate Seahawks fan tried to trash-talk Mayfield, who replied in a way only he knows.

You’ll be real quiet at halftime.

The Oklahoma alum was smiling when he kept jawing at the home fans. He did not lose control and kept talking, leaving his offensive linemen smiling at the back-and-forth.

Fans love Baker Mayfield’s trash talk to Seahawks fans

Usually, when an athlete engages in trash talk with rival fans, it is either someone who is supremely confident about his and his team’s abilities or just lets his ego take over.

In Baker Mayfield‘s case, fans praised his ability to keep his base intact as he said all this before the game, then went out and defeated the Seattle Seahawks. It is usually hard for players to back up their talk, but the Bucs QB did.

Fans believe this shows how confident he is in the team’s ability as a unit. They have won three games before this, and know they can hang it up with the best.

Fans loved Mayfield’s ability to stand his ground and not be swayed into the war of words. They believe he is proving to become the level-headed but fiery enough franchise quarterback that the Bucs wanted him to be. Check out examples of those reactions below:

Later in the game, Baker Mayfield and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers took a 13-7 lead at the half, enough to have him hold the edge in his battle with the Seattle Seahawks fans near the tunnel.

Baker Mayfield has the last laugh after win

The game was an all out battle between the two former Carolina Panthers’ teammates as Baker Mayfield threw for 379 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the night with a 134.7 rating.

His former teammate, Sam Darnold, now as the franchise quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, was slightly better in terms of rating, finishing with 135.4 after throwing for 341 yards, 4 touchdowns and 1 interception.

The latter’s interception stopped his aerial attack from helping his team complete their furious comeback attempts in the 2nd half. As the ball turned over to the away team, they did enough to enable kicker Chase McLaughlin enough distance to seal the win.

After the game, Baker Mayfield returned to have his last words to the same Seahawks fan. As he approached the tunnel, he turned towards the fan, pointing fingers and yelling:

I told you so! I told you so!

Baker Mayfield said

If anything, the Texas native is being the same version of himself that made him the best quarterback prospect in college. If the Bucs are to mount a serious challenge to the Super Bowl, they will need him to be this and more.
