Sarah Ashlee Barker came into the WNBA last season as the 9th overall pick in the draft, at a time when the league was experiencing a surge in growth.
Most of the growth was initially focused on Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, with some fans claiming the former could be a good addition to some of the worst teams in the NBA.
That argument has now turned on its head with claims that WNBA stars do not have what it takes to defeat high school NBA prospects, let alone those who are in the big league.
Even Sophie Cunningham agreed that NBA prospects are more athletic and bigger, making it difficult to play against them. These arguments led many to believe that men in general could defeat WNBA stars.
The cast of 4funguys decided to see if these claims are true and brought in a person who claimed he could defeat a WNBA star easily. To keep fairness, they roped in Sarah Ashlee Barker.
The man allowed the Los Angeles Sparks rookie to start. After missing her first layup, she grabbed her own rebound and scored easily. She then bodied him on her way to the rim, almost broke his ankles, then stepped back to launch a three to end the 1v1 battle.
Sarah Ashlee Barker essentially humiliated the man and made him apologize for belittling women’s basketball players. After that, she reminded him that her teammates, whom she believed were much better than her, would have led to an even bigger embarrassment.
WNBA stars and fans love Sarah Ashlee Barker standing up for her peers
As soon as clips of this video spread online, several WNBA stars and fans were quick to praise Sarah Ashlee Barker for what she did to that troll.
Some, such as Natasha Cloud, were ecstatic that a rookie taught a man a lesson on how to respect athletes, no matter what their gender was. Then there were others who felt this beating was necessary after the claims men made.
They felt that the Sparks’ rookie proved that not just any man can think about defeating prime women athletes. Check out examples of those reactions below:

Watched a man say he’d win 1v1 against any WNBA player then proceeded to watch him get cooked by a rookie who averaged 3.1 points a game💀💀💀💀

She’s in the top .1% of all basketball players in the world. Just making it Pro is an unbelievable accomplishment. Any guy off the street thinking they could beat any WNBA player is just delusional.

The video may have a hint of being staged. But there was no doubting the fact that the Alabama star was making a joke out of the man who decided it was fair to challenge a professional basketball player.
Sarah Ashlee Barker could be forced to pay rent if WNBA proposal goes through
Sarah Ashlee Barker coming into the WNBA last season means her salary next year will be a paltry $73K. So far, it has been made well and truly clear that money is just not enough for professional basketball players.

The next CBA will probably change that, and the prospects coming in next year will likely earn at least 4 times what Barker earns. Then there are the veterans, who will earn a million dollars or more.
The WNBA has proposed a seven-figure base max salary as part of a new collective bargaining agreement, but it’s coming at a cost. The league has removed team housing from proposals submitted to the Women’s National Basketball Players Association.
Annie Costabile of FOS revealed
The reporter mentioned in her article that, as per the current CBA, teams are supposed to provide their players with in-season housing. The league wants that to be taken away to increase the max contract salary.
If this proposal does get accepted, players such as Sarah Ashlee Barker would have to fork out rent from the paltry salary she earns. The Alabama native would have to do so until the 2029 season, when she will be eligible to earn a six-figure contract.
