Fans were left laughing after the news of Manchester United’s request to allow two of its players to travel to the Ballon d’Or ceremony was rejected by rivals Manchester City. The Red Devils’ had asked for a lift for youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Man Utd’s new owners INEOS group, had reportedly requested their city-rivals to allow two of their players, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho to join the Man City players on their private jet to Paris. The two youngsters are among the nominees for the 2024 Kopa Trophy, to be presented during the ceremony, on the 28th of October.
They would be battling with the likes of City star Savinho and Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal for the award, which honors the best young player under the age of 21.
The request, has however, been ‘politely’ denied by Man City, reasoning that their flight to the ceremony is already full. The Cityzens have a number of players travelling to Paris, including Rodri, Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, Phil Foden, and Savinho.
They would be joined by three other women stars, Yui Hasegawa, Lauren Hemp and Khadija Shaw, contenders for the 2024 Ballon d’Or Feminin. Pep Guardiola will also be travelling on that flight, thus leading to the club’s decision to decline United’s request.
This is so so embarrassing ?

The alleged request was a part of United’s plan to cut costs, as they felt that sending two players on a private jet would not be a feasible option. With their unusual request ultimately being denied, the club would now have to look for alternative options.

Liverpool and City/United regularly share flights for South American players returning from international duty. Completely normal request being made out to be something it isn't by a journalist in the pocket of a country.
