Cristiano Ronaldo’s poor luck struck again, as he missed a penalty during the Al-Nassr’s 1-0 defeat to Al-Taawoun, ending their Saudi King’s Cup journey. The 39-year-old’s missed penalty kick, moreover, hit a fan’s phone while he was recording from the stands.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s side has been eliminated out of the King’s Cup round of 16, dashing their hopes of ending their long-drawn trophy drought. The former Real Madrid star is yet to win a major trophy at Al-Nassr, with the club having last won the Saudi Super Cup in 2020.

It marked their second defeat of the season, as the 39-year-old skipper missed a crucial penalty in the dying minutes of the match. Al-Nassr got the penalty after late substitute Mohammed Maran was fouled inside the penalty area.

The Portuguese five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who is often regarded as the best spot-kick taker, missed the last-minute scoring opportunity. He took a powerful shot, but it unfortunately went over the left-hand side of the goalpost to hit a young boy in the stands.

Ronaldo’s powerful kick hit the young fan’s phone, and it went flying out of his hands. It is not the first time that the Portuguese hit a phone, having previously knocked out a mobile of a boy’s hand during Manchester United’s match against Everton in 2022.

With the 39-year-old star having missed Al-Nassr’s opportunity to win their first trophy of the year, their eyes will now be set upon winning the 2024-25 Saudi Pro League title. Al-Nassr are currently on the third position on the Saudi PL table with 18 points, six behind arch-rivals Al-Hilal.

Many fans exclaimed that the player had broken two phones in the last few years, while winning zero trophies. One fan labelled Ronaldo’s penalty-kick as a ‘rocket-launcher’, targeting cameras and phones. Some users expressed concern about the young fan’s condition. Another user stated that Ronaldo should pay for the broken phone.

Meanwhile, following the club’s 1-0 defeat, Cristiano was seen with his head in his hands, low on confidence. The Real Madrid icon, despite Al-Nassr’s poor start to the season, has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 12 matches till now.
