Since AEW’s inception in 2019, there have always been rumors floating around about wrestlers jumping ship from WWE and vice versa. Over the past few months, there has been a lot of speculation about wrestling veteran Natalya going over to the Jacksonville-based promotion. With Mercedes Mone‘s promo on the latest episode of Dynamite, more fuel has been added to the fire.
Mercedes Mone defeated Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door III to become a double champion. She came out on Dynamite to toot her own horn and used a phrase that shocked fans. She claimed that she was the past, the present, and the future of wrestling. Furthermore, she called herself the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be.
Bret Hart, Natalya’s uncle, used this iconic phrase during his days as an active wrestler. Mone undoubtedly spent a lot of time with The Queen of Harts in WWE. She has been a huge advocate for AEW. It would be no surprise if the 32-year-old convinced her to jump ship. Reportedly, she has already been talking to Shane McMahon regarding his AEW debut. She may be doing the same with the former Women’s Champion as well.
Rumors suggest that The Anvilette’s contract with WWE expires this summer, and she may be interested in switching promotions. The 42-year-old seems to have reached her peak in WWE. She is a two-time Women’s Champion and has held the tag belts alongside Tamina Snuka. It is clear that the promotion does not see a place for her in the current landscape of women’s wrestling, as she has mostly been relegated to NXT to put young talent over.
Wrestling fans go ballistic after Mercedes Mone hints at Natalya joining AEW
The wrestling world was astonished after Mercedes Mone made this reference to the Hart family. Natalya would be a more than handy addition to the AEW female roster. The company could surely use a wrestling veteran such as her in their locker room.
Although the promotion may not see her as a top star anymore, there is no doubt that she can still go in the ring. The Canadian put on a fantastic match against Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship on an episode of Raw in 2023. The career lifecycle of a wrestler seems to have elongated over the past few years. Even at the age of 42, she undoubtedly has a few more years as a top-level star.
Even if Mone did not drop this line to hint at The Hart Dungeon Diva’s arrival in AEW, it sure helped her get cheap heat. Her character has started to exhibit more heelish tendencies. Therefore, copying a line from one of the greatest wrestlers of the rival promotion is surely one way to get on the fans’ bad side.
