Chelsea fans were furious after the club chose not to punish Argentine star Enzo Fernandez for his alleged racist chants following the Copa America victory. A controversy arose when the midfielder was seen in a video chanting racist and homophobic slurs about French players.
Enzo Fernandez, who moved to Chelsea in 2022 from Benfica, faced significant backlash for his act. The midfielder shared a video of himself and his Argentine teammates celebrating with the controversial chant.
Fellow Chelsea player Wesley Fofana condemned the act, calling it ‘uninhibited racism’. Fernandez subsequently apologized both publicly and privately to his teammates, as well as on social media.
Moreover, the ex-Benfica star once again apologized to his teammates after rejoining the squad for their tour in the US. Additionally, while accepting full responsibility for his actions, he made a significant donation to an anti-discrimination charity.
Chelsea captain Reece James and teammate Axel Disasi reportedly played crucial roles in facilitating discussions between Fernandez and his peers. The club has completed its internal disciplinary process and accepted the player’s apology. The club’s fans have expressed their outrage over the decision not to take any action against Fernandez.

He deserves a ban for what he did
If he has apologized and vowed never to do these kind of despicable acts in the future, it's okay to let him go!

I’m seeing United fans and Liverpool fans comment on this, while they don’t even hold their own players accountable. They don’t care about racism.
