Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is moving closer to agreeing on a shocking transfer move out of the club. He remains closer to joining Juventus during the ongoing transfer window. The Uruguayan centre-back is reportedly eyeing a permanent move to the Serie A.
Ronald Araujo has seen his role reduce at Barcelona under new manager Hansi Flick, having made just one appearance this season. The 25-year-old, once deemed as a future captain, has fallen down the pecking order behind Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez. Much of it is attributed to the biceps femoral injury that he sustained in July last year, keeping him out of action for the next few months.
Araujo’s first appearance of the season came recently against fourth-tier side Barbastro in the Copa del Rey. Despite having made a return from injury in December, he has remained on the bench. Unhappy with his role, Ronald Araujo has now been linked with a shock transfer move to Juventus. The Bianconeri had initially hoped to sign Araujo on loan, but have now made to change their plans.

Barcelona have set a massive asking price of around €70 million for the defender. Araujo has 18 months remaining on his current contract, and the Catalan club will be hoping to cash him. They are also in need of a financial boost, after having recently struggled to register Dani Olmo. Negotiations between the two clubs are expected to begin after the Supercopa de Espana final, where Barca takes on Real Madrid.

While Juventus have identified the 25-year-old as a priority signing, they do face stiff competition from EPL giants Arsenal. Nonetheless, Ronaldo Araujo would be a great addition to the Juventus squad, who have struggled defensively following Gleison Bremer’s injury.
Fans react to Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo’s transfer links with Juventus
Barcelona fans and social media users expressed frustration at the Catalan club for its decision to allow Ronaldo Araujo leave this month. This comes after strong interest from Serie A giants Juventus. The two teams are reportedly engaged in talks over a potential transfer move for the 25-year-old center-back.
Fans slammed Barcelona for letting the club’s best defender move out, and claimed that the Catalan side would regret their decision. A few others took a dig at Ronald Araujo, amid uncertainty over his future. They mockingly exclaimed that the Uruguayan’s place in the Barca line-up was taken by a 17-year-old young lad, referring to La Masia talent Pau Cubarsi.

Juventus fans, on the other hand, expressed delight over the news. They claimed that Araujo and Gleison Bremer could emulate the iconic Leonardo Bonucci–Giorgio Chiellini duo. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen what lies ahead for the 25-year-old Uruguayan center-back.
