Fans mocked Erik ten Hag for drawing comparisons between himself and former Manchester United boss and legendary manager, Jose Mourinho. His statements come ahead of a much-anticipated encounter between the Red Devils and Fenerbahce in the UEL.

Erik ten Hag has been under fire amid growing fears of his sacking, just two years after having taken over the role of Manchester United manager. Despite spending huge on new signings, United have endured their worst possible start to the EPL season. They are currently languishing in the 12th position on the EPL table, with just 11 points from eight matches. They are still searching for their first Europa League win his season, as they face Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, away from home.

It would be a reunion for the legendary Portuguese manager with his former club, who he had managed from 2016 to 2018. Ahead of a clash between the two sides, Ten Hag surprised everyone by stating that both he and Mourinho had won a lot of trophies in their past few years, but had to face criticism whenever they failed to do the same.

Counting similarities, he exclaimed that they both are experienced managers and hold the potential to lead a team to a title, while also viewing that they are heading in the right way.

Mourinho and I, we won a lot of trophies the last years but you have to prove yourself every year and when you don’t win we are always under criticism. We know that we are experienced enough.

Contrary to his statements, Mourinho, however, is way ahead of Ten Hag, having led prominent clubs like Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Roma. Interestingly, United’s last major trophy came in 2017 in the form of the UEL title under Mourinho, before they went on a trophy-less run, until 2024.

Fans and social media users mocked Erik ten Hag for drawing similarities between him and Jose Mourinho. The Dutchman compared his treatment at Old Trafford to that of the former Chelsea boss, despite being way behind his predecessor.

Some fans labeled Ten Hag’s statements as ‘disrespectful’, exclaiming that it was unfair of him to put himself in the same category with the legendary Fenerbahce manager. One fan hilariously pointed to the club’s 12th position on the Premier League table, while poking fun at Ten Hag’s comments. Another labeled him as a ‘parody’ manager.
