Somehow controversies haven’t really left the trail of Erik ten Hag despite returning to winning ways against Southampton. The saga started before the match when Manchester United announced their playing XI against Soton. The fans didn’t spot Alejandro Garnacho which led them to the speculation that since the latter liked Cristiano Ronaldo‘s post of slamming ETH in the ongoing debate, hence he was dropped from the playing XI.

Other fans came to the conclusion that the Argentine striker have been carving one mediocre performance after the other leading to the decision from Erik ten Hag. With all of that being said, Alejandro Garnacho did come on in the 73rd minute, replacing Marcus Rashford and even scored the third goal for United.

There has been an ongoing debate between ten Hag and former Manchester United player Ronaldo. The Al-Nassr captain pointed out that ten Hag’s mindset isn’t exactly conducive for the Red Devils. However, the United coach hit back at the Portuguese striker, stating that he is far away in Saudi Arabia and everyone is entitled to an opinion, so he was no exception to the same. Garnacho did hit the like button on Ronaldo’s post which was pinpointed by the fans.

The Red Devils finally returned to winning ways even though there were early jitters. Southampton looked in great touch at the St. Mary’s Stadium which forced a couple of brilliant saves from Andre Onana including a spot kick. The defiance of the penalty from Onana instilled hopes in United and they started fighting back.

Matthijs de Ligt scored the opener for United followed by Marcus Rashford‘s long-draught ending strike which propelled them to a 2-0 strike ahead of half-time. Garnacho scored in 96th minute from a Diogo Dalot assist to make it 3-0 for Manchester United.

Here is what X had to tell Erik ten Hag for dropping Alejandro Garnacho initally

X was particularly salty about Erik ten Hag dropping Garnacho. However, the opinions were mixed. As the Argentine striker couldn’t really come forth with the performances expected of him after the last season, ETH had to make a tough call. It wasn’t just Garnacho, however, who was given the axe as Casemiro too was on the bench after a handful of unforgivable howlers against Liverpool.

The fans still ensured that they aren’t exactly biased against ETH as they dropped other names in the mix too. However, in recent times with the incident that unfurled with Jadon Sancho, a few fans believe that the Dutch manager is the one to blame for.

This is not the first time that the fans have subjected unabated vitriol toward ten Hag. From Jose Mourinho to Ralf Rangnick, everyone who has been at the helm of Manchester United has felt the heat since Sir Alex Ferguson left, whether it is for not favoring a particular player or due to unfortunate results.

Apart from Manchester City who have rode high on the brilliance of Erling Haaland so far, all the other major teams have dropped points at the end of the first four games. Liverpool had a shocking defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest last night while Arsenal split points with Brentford in the preceding gameweek.
