Inter Miami skipper Lionel Messi played in freezing cold conditions on rare occasions, while helping his side claim a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City. The 37-year-old veteran forward scored in Inter Miami’s first round clash in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Lionel Messi was named in the squad by manager Javier Mascherano in Miami’s first competitive game of the season. After a goal-less first half, the Argentine made his impact in the 56th minute. He received a brilliant pass from Sergio Busquets. Messi then the ball dribbled towards the right side, and arrowed his shot from a tight angle towards the bottom corner to score the only goal of the match.
The match was interestingly played in freezing-cold conditions, as temperatures at the Children’s Mercy Park stadium in Kansas City dropped to -17°C. To beat the chilling cold, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was seen wearing a neck warmer and a pair of gloves. Messi’s match-winning display stunned fans, as it played down the popular ‘cold windy night at Stoke’ theory.

The ‘Stoke’ theory is related to a question whether Messi can score in the city of Stoke, in England, where matches are often played in windy, wet and cold conditions. It was previously believed that Lionel Messi, faces difficulties in colder temperatures. However, it is primarily because of the fact that the 37-year-old has spent the majority of his career in the warm conditions of Spain and Argentina.
The argument “Could Messi do it on a cold Tuesday night vs Stoke” is now put to bed, the Goat can do it with ease. 😮💨🐐
