Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City are under threat of losing out on the title after four consecutive triumphs. With a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions, the club are five points behind League leaders Liverpool. City also claimed the unwanted record of losing their first-ever Premier League game in which Erling Haaland scored.

City opened the game strongly against Brighton, as their Norwegian striker powered through the opposition’s backline. After hanging on for the entirety of the first half, Brighton upped the ante. After spurning several chances in the initial minutes of the second half, Joao Pedro scored the leveller after a messy sequence inside the box.

Matt O’Riley claimed the winner with just seven minutes to go as he latched onto a pass from Pedro. The unexpected loss puts even more pressure on City to win their upcoming games.

Pep Guardiola didn’t seem too optimistic as he gave his post-match interview, suggesting that maybe another team will claim the title this season.

Fans react to Manchester City’s poor run of form

Not used to being on the losing side quite often, Manchester City and its players are being trolled mercilessly on the internet. A fan commented that Pep Guardiola will leave City, the club will be found guilty of the 115 charges and the club will get relegated in the ‘ideal’ scenario. With a majority of viewers hoping that the club doesn’t recover from its ‘slump’, a fan pointed to how Haaland’s ‘stay humble’ rant on Mikel Arteta marked the start of their problems.

A fan found it ironic that City’s ‘era’ has seemingly started to end the moment former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag got sacked. Some however, were still wary of City’s ability to come back in the second half of the season and refused to rule them out.

City play their next game in the League against Tottenham Hotspur before arguably playing the most important game of their season against Liverpool. Liverpool on the other hand are flying under Arne Slot and have only lost one game in the League till now. City’s season is also largely troubled by an injury crisis, with Jack Grealish, Ruben Dias and John Stones on the list.
