Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola failed to hide his frustration with the club’s packed February schedule. This includes a host of difficult EPL and Champions League fixtures. His comments came after City were drawn against Real Madrid in the UCL playoff round.

The defending Premier League champions have struggled this season, having effectively fallen out of the title race. Manchester City has dropped to the 4th position on the EPL table, making it the first time in ten seasons. The club endured a tough time in the final phase of the previous year. Man City won just two out of their 13 matches in the months of November and December.

City has a tough list of fixtures next month, playing a total of seven matches in a span of just 24 days. They face Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool and Tottenham in the EPL, alongside a crucial FA Cup fourth round encounter against Leyton. Moreover, a two-legged UCL play-off tie against Real Madrid, to decide who makes it into the last 16, also comes in the middle of the month.

Pep Guardiola unsurprisingly stated that English clubs are at a disadvantage in Europe, owing to the EPL’s tough scheduling. He sarcastically refused to complain about it, noting to the success City has had in dealing with it. Expressing despair, Guardiola added that it would never change, despite several managers including Sir Alex Ferguson, having complained about the schedule in the past.

The schedule is what it is… It’s tough playing against Real Madrid, the problem is in the middle playing Newcastle. It’s been this way for nine years. The broadcasters decide, they don’t ask me.

Moreover, it is contrary to Pep Guadriola’s older comments. He had previously urged the EPL to allow teams to get rest. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen what lies ahead for Manchester City, who hope to bounce back this season.
