There is a long standing debate between Real Madrid and eternal rivals FC Barcelona as to which team is the best. Similarly, the two biggest clubs in Spain have a solid case to claim the title as the best football academy on the planet.

Both La Masia and La Fabrica have generated top players including the likes of Lamine Yamal, Lionel Messi, Arda Guler and Dani Carvajal to name a few. Recently, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez sparked debate on social media with a confident claim.

Subsequently, Perez claimed that 191 Real Madrid academy players play in professional Leagues. While 51 and 56 players play in the first and second divisions, there are a total of 84 players in International Leagues.

Fans react to Florentino Perez’s ‘overconfident’ claim

In reaction to Perez naming La Fabrica as the best academy in the world, a fan responded that Real Madrid genuinely believes that the planet revolves around it. Another comment poked fun at how the club makes such claims and then fails to field their own players in the starting line-up.

Another talking point was how no Real Madrid academy player had ever won the Ballon d’Or, calling it nonsense. A fan even went so far as to question whether the club even has a proper academy.

Some instantly dismissed the President’s claim while others proceeded to ‘debunk’ Perez’s lie. Even though Barcelona continues to churn out top talent through its academy, Madrid also remains at the top. Here are some of the reactions:

Both clubs are doing well in terms of form, with Barcelona and Real being first and second in La Liga respectively. With a game in hand, Real can close down the gap between Barcelona to a single point by winning the game against Getafe in December.
