After Real Madrid failed to claim all three points over Rayo Vallecano in La Liga on Saturday night, fans were disappointed about Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian star did not start the game and was subbed on for Brahim Diaz in the second half.

The Los Blancos led 2-3 in the 63rd minute when Carlo Ancelotti decided to introduce Vinicius. It is safe to say that the Brazilian had a game to forget, picking up a yellow card and having a ‘disallowed’ penalty.

It only took the winger 11 minutes after his introduction to get booked, as he went on an angry rant at the match official for a decision that didn’t go in his favor. The 24-year-old has time and again been given warnings for his ‘explosive’ reactions and short-tempered behavior on the pitch.

The yellow card means that the Ballon d’Or finalist will miss the game against Sevilla. As of now, Vinicius has eight goals and five assists in La Liga this season. However, his five yellow cards do not help his case.

Fans react to Vinicius Jr. losing his cool against the referee

Following the game, several fans took to social media to criticize Vinicius Jr.‘s lack of restraint. A fan said that the Brazilian has a habit of constantly ‘crying’ whenever decisions don’t go his way. Another stated that Rodri ‘saved’ football by denying Vinicius the Ballon d’Or.

That being said, a few did defend Vinicius, claiming that his reaction was justified. Many even pointed out that the officiating was biased and that Real Madrid was denied a clear penalty. Here are some of the fan reactions:

Images of Vinicius Jr. being kicked in the leg inside the penalty area were spammed under posts mocking him. Fans also noticed how Rayo Vallecano supporters mocked the Brazilian by chanting ‘Vini Ballon d’Or’.

As things stand, Real Madrid is in second position in La Liga, with 37 points from 17 games. A win would’ve seen the club overtake Barca, who are currently on 38 points from as many outings.
